Purpose
Adding extra monitors expands your available desktop space and allows you to spread your work across multiple screens. Whether you are using a docking station with external monitors or connecting a second monitor directly to your computer, this guide explains how to extend your display and arrange your screens.
Before You Begin
Ensure all monitors are powered on
Confirm cables or docking station are securely connected
Make sure you are signed in to your CCPS account
How to Extend Your Displays
Step 1: Open Display Settings
Click the Windows Start Menu.
Click into the Search bar.
Type extend.
Select Duplicate or extend to a connected display.
Step 2: Verify Detected Monitors
This screen will show the number of monitors the computer has detected.
Each monitor will be labeled with a number such as 1, 2, or 3.
Important
If you do not see the number of monitors you expected, please submit a ticket with the Help Desk team so they can provide assistance.
Step 3: Identify Monitor Numbers
Click Identify to display a number on each physical monitor.
This helps you match the on screen layout with your actual screen setup.
Step 4: Arrange Monitor Order
Click and hold the left mouse button on a monitor in the layout.
Drag it to match the physical position of your screens.
Release the mouse button when it is in the correct location.
Step 5: Confirm Layout
Verify the monitor positions are correct.
Click Apply to save changes
Click Cancel to revert to the previous layout
Step 6: Set the Main Display
Select the monitor you want as your primary display.
In the drop down menu, ensure Make this my main display is checked.
Step 7: Extend the Desktop
In the same drop down menu, confirm that Extend desktop to this display is selected.
Tip
Your taskbar and desktop icons will appear on the main display. Choose the screen you look at most often as your primary monitor.
