Over the summer of 2023, Calvert County Public Schools will be transitioning over from Windows 10 to the newest Microsoft operating system, Windows 11. While the new operating system itself is very similar to its predecessor on the backend, the frontend, or what the user will see, is a little different.
This guide reviews what you, as the user, will need to know to prepare for Windows 11:
User interface improvements
Start Menu
If there's one thing that stands out about Windows 11, it's the Start Menu. Microsoft has revamped the menu, moving away from the "live tile" approach and opting for a collection of icons that are visually pleasing giving everything a softer look. Check out our guide here: Windows 11 - Start Menu
Taskbar
Like Apple's macOS, the taskbar in Windows 11 is now placed front and center providing a clean visual experience.
Searching
At the very top of the Start Menu is a search bar. The function allows you to input text to search through all of the apps and files on your machine, as well as pulling up information from the web and relevant results from OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.
Action Center
The Action Center has been revamped and includes a more succinct set of options targeted for your specific computer. Access the new Action Center by clicking on either the network or volume icons on the Taskbar.
Notification Center
The Notification Center has also been revamped giving the user more control on the types of notifications and how they are delivered. Access the new Notification Center by clicking on the date and time icon on the Taskbar.
Rounded corners
Windows applications will utilize the new "rounded corner" view.
