Whether you are signing in to a brand-new computer, a recently reimaged device, or using a guest account, you may find that the standalone printer you need is not listed. This typically means the printer has not yet been registered on the computer.
This guide explains how to use Printix to register and install a standalone printer on your CCPS computer.
Important: These instructions are only for standalone printers. Do not use Printix to install a copier. CCPS copiers use the Secure Print system and do not need to be individually installed.
Standalone Printer or Copier?
CCPS uses different printing methods depending on the type of device.
| I Want to Print To | Printing Method |
|---|---|
| Standalone printer | Printix |
| Copier | Secure Print using the YSoft Client |
Standalone Printers
Standalone printers are installed individually using Printix. Follow the instructions in this article to add the printer to your computer.
Copiers
CCPS copiers use Secure Print through the YSoft Client. You do not install individual copiers on your computer.
Instead, your document is sent to Secure Print and held until you visit a copier and release the print job using your registered badge or PIN.
Don't see Secure Print?
If the Secure Print option is not available on your computer, follow Installing and Configuring the YSoft Client to install the required software and synchronize the Secure Print printer.
Once the YSoft Client is installed and configured, see Secure Print - How to Print and Release a Print Job for instructions on printing to a copier.
Before You Begin
Before installing a standalone printer:
- Make sure you are signed in to your CCPS account.
- Confirm that your computer is connected to the network.
- Verify that the Printix client is running in the system tray.
Step 1: Open Printix
- Locate the system tray in the lower-right corner of your screen.
- Locate the Printix icon.
- Right-click the Printix icon.
Step 2: Open Printers
Select Printers from the Printix menu.
Step 3: Select the Printer to Install
- Search for or scroll through the list of available printers.
- Select the checkbox next to each standalone printer you want to install.
- Select Add.
Remember: Copiers do not need to be selected or installed through Printix. Use Secure Print when printing to a copier.
Step 4: Complete the Installation
Printix will install the selected printer or printers.
Once the installation is complete, select Finish.
Step 5: Complete the Confirmation Prompt
If a confirmation window appears:
- Select Do not show again.
- Select OK.
Installation Complete
The standalone printer is now installed and ready to use.
When printing a document, select the newly installed printer from the available printer list.
Printing to a Copier
If you need to print to a CCPS copier, do not install the copier through Printix.
Instead:
- Open the document you want to print.
- Select Print.
- Select the Secure Print printer.
- Configure any necessary printing options.
- Send the print job.
- Go to the copier where you want to retrieve your document.
- Sign in to the copier using your registered badge or PIN.
- Release your print job.
Because Secure Print holds your print job until you release it, you can retrieve the document from a supported CCPS copier rather than sending it to one specific copier.
For complete instructions, see Secure Print - How to Print and Release a Print Job.
Tip
You can return to the Printix menu at any time to add or remove standalone printers as your location or printing needs change.
For copiers, there is no need to add or remove individual devices. Continue using Secure Print.
Need Help?
If you cannot locate Printix, cannot find the standalone printer you need, or experience problems installing a printer, please submit a ticket with the CCPS IT Help Desk for assistance.
Summary
CCPS uses two different methods for printing:
- Standalone printers are installed and managed using Printix.
- Copiers use Secure Print and do not need to be individually installed.
Knowing which type of device you are printing to will help you select the correct printing method.
