Printing - Remove a Standalone Printer from Your Computer

At times, you may need to remove a standalone printer because it is no longer needed, is not working properly, or you simply want to clean up the list of printers installed on your CCPS computer.

This article explains how to remove an installed standalone printer from Windows.

Important: These instructions are intended for standalone printers. CCPS copiers use Secure Print through the YSoft Client and should not be individually installed or removed using these instructions.

Step 1: Open Printers & Scanners

  1. Open the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Search for Printers & scanners.
  3. Select Open.

Step 2: Locate the Printer

The Printers & scanners page will display the printers currently installed on your computer.

Locate the standalone printer you want to remove.

Step 3: Open the Printer

Select the arrow (>) next to the printer you want to remove.

Step 4: Remove the Printer

Select Remove to uninstall the printer from your computer.

If Windows asks you to confirm the removal, follow the prompts to continue.

Step 5: Remove Additional Printers

Repeat the steps above for any additional standalone printers you no longer need.

Need to Reinstall the Printer?

If you removed a printer and need to reinstall it, or need to add another standalone printer, follow Printing - Install a Standalone Printer Using Printix.

What About Copiers?

CCPS copiers use Secure Print through the YSoft Client. Individual copiers do not need to be installed or removed from your computer.

If Secure Print is missing or not working properly, do not remove it using these instructions. Review Installing and Configuring the YSoft Client or submit a ticket to the CCPS IT Help Desk for assistance.

Need Help?

If you are unable to remove a printer, cannot locate Printers & scanners, or continue to experience printing issues after removing and reinstalling the printer, please submit a ticket with the CCPS IT Help Desk for assistance.

Summary

Windows allows you to easily remove standalone printers that are no longer needed or are not working properly. If you need the printer again, use Printix to reinstall it.
