Each school has been issued 25 student spare laptops to help minimize classroom disruption when a student’s assigned device is unavailable.
🔁 Primary Use
Spares are primarily used for quick device swaps when a student’s laptop is malfunctioning.
They may also be used during testing, but schools should always maintain enough spares for day-to-day needs.
⚙️ Shared Policy
All spares are configured with the “shared” policy, allowing for quick and flexible reassignment between users.
📋 Tracking & Responsibility
Use the Spare Distribution List to track which students are assigned a spare.
School-based Technology Coordinators (SBTCs) are responsible for managing spares and collecting them when they’re no longer needed.
-
Any lost or unreturned spares or chargers will become the financial responsibility of the school.
🔋 Storage & Charging
To ensure spares are always ready:
Store them in a secure and accessible location.
Keep devices charged and ready for immediate use.
Laptop carts are recommended for storage if available.
📦 End-of-Year Collection
Before students leave for summer:
Collect all spare laptops and chargers.
No student should take a spare device home over the summer.
Spares will be serviced over the summer and used for summer school programs.
💼 Student Laptop Obligations
Schools should continue working to resolve outstanding damage obligations before the end of the year.
Students with unresolved obligations will not receive a replacement laptop the following school year.
Instead, those students should be issued a school spare at the start of the new year while the obligation is addressed.
✅ Keeping spares available, tracked, and in good condition ensures faster support, uninterrupted instruction, and readiness for future student needs.
