All Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) student laptops are covered by an Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) warranty. This warranty helps protect students from the cost of repairs or replacement when accidental damage or theft occurs.
Students are responsible for notifying their school immediately if a laptop is damaged or stops working.
Reporting Damage
If your laptop is damaged or is not working properly:
- Notify your teacher or School-Based Technology Coordinator (SBTC) as soon as possible.
- Do not continue using a damaged laptop if it could cause additional damage.
- Do not attempt to repair the laptop yourself.
Important
Failure to report damage or a malfunction promptly may be considered negligence, and the student may be held responsible for the cost of the repair.
What Is Covered?
The ADP warranty covers accidental damage that occurs during normal use, as well as theft.
Examples include:
- Liquid spills on the keyboard
- Water
- Coffee
- Juice
- Drops or bumps (from heights of 15 feet or less)
- Falling off a desk
- Tripping over the charging cord
- Being bumped from a desk
- A dropped backpack
- A backpack stepped on while riding the school bus
- Uncontrollable events
- Electrical surges
- House fires
- Theft
What Is Not Covered?
The ADP warranty does not cover damage caused by negligence, intentional actions, cosmetic alterations, or loss.
Intentional Damage
Examples include:
- Throwing or punching the laptop
- Prying off keyboard keys
- Pushing objects into USB or charging ports
- Submerging the laptop in water or other liquids
- Pulling the rubber from beneath the keyboard keys
Negligence
Examples include:
- Attempting to repair the laptop yourself
- Overstuffing a backpack, causing pressure damage
- Closing the laptop with an object inside (such as a pencil or earbuds)
- Failing to report damage promptly, resulting in additional damage
Cosmetic Damage
Examples include:
- Carving names or designs into the laptop
- Painting or coloring laptop components
- Removing rubber trim
- Placing stickers on the laptop
Note
Cosmetic damage that does not affect the operation of the laptop may still be considered damage to school property.
What About Lost Laptops?
The ADP warranty does not cover lost laptops.
If a laptop is lost, notify your school immediately so appropriate procedures can be followed.
